DESCRIPTION

Endodontic cement.

PULP FILL is an endodontic cement, used as an intracanal filling material.
The powder and liquid form a viscous mixture, which are used with gutta-percha cones.
The setting of this cement is a reaction between Zinc Oxide and Eugenol, which in the presence of water forms zinc eugenolate. The resin improves mixing characteristics and delays setting time. Radiopacity is optimized by Bismuth and Barium salts.
The PULP FILL formulation is similar to that developed by GROSSMAN. This cement was developed seeking to satisfy the requirements established by GROSSMAN for a perfect endodontic filling cement, which are: (1) adhesiveness – it must be sticky, when mixed, to provide good adhesion between the cone and the canal; (2) perfect closure – must provide an airtight seal; (3) radiopaque – must be radiopaque so that it can be visualized by radiography; (4) small particles – powder particles must be very small so that they can mix easily with the liquid; (5) not undergo contraction – it should not contract once placed; (6) it should not stain the tooth structure; (7) antibacterial action – must be bacteriostatic or, at least, unsuitable for bacterial growth; (8) it should harden slowly; (9) insoluble – must be insoluble in tissue liquids; (10) biocompatible – must be tolerated by the tissues, that is, not irritating to periapical tissues and (11) capable of being removed – must be soluble in common solvent, if it is necessary to remove the canal filling.
